Workshop Lighting
Workshop Lighting requires a higher level of lighting – typically 300 Lux or more – with good uniformity (evenness) and an effort to try and avoid shadows. This can arise if working under the Bonnet of a Car for example or there are high machines or storage racks causing obstructions and shadows. These problems can be mitigated by having bright Walls and Floor, allowing the light to be reflected sideways and upwards. Having a reduced spacing between overhead Luminaires may also be necessary and if known in advance, the lighting layout should take account of the Floor layout. For example, 1 Light between each Car Bay or Work Bench or Machine, etc. In specific areas, it may be necessary to provide extra lighting for specific tasks or to compensate for reduced light due to obstructions. For this purpose, for example, an extra local Light may be suspended from the Ceiling and dropped to an appropriate height.

Solas Workshop – Racklyters
The Car Service Workshop shown uses VeeLite SoftBay Luminaires which provide all around Lighting and minimal glare. The Ceiling is well illuminated and prevents the ‘cave-effect’ and the Walls provide good reflectance.
The workshops at the Solas Training Facility uses VeeLite Racklyter Luminaires with widebeam optics, so all areas receive light from several directions.
Workshop lighting levels would usually deteriorate because of dust/ dirt in the atmosphere. These Racklyters have dust-tight optics to prevent this loss of light.
These Luminaires are supplied in LED version as standard and often with integrated motion Sensors.
