Area Lighting
External Area Lighting can cover a wide variety of Project types – Schools, Harbours, Sports Pitches, Residential Roads, Public Parks, etc. Listed below are some of the typical areas we generally supply.
Area lighting typically refers to the illumination of large areas.
Area Lights usually refers to Lights mounted on a Pole which will provide lighting in all directions, ie. 360 degrees, often called Symmetric lighting.
To illuminate these large areas efficiently, higher Pole heights are required, maybe 8M to 24M typically, but sometimes higher or lower than this. Generally, the higher the Pole, the wider the spread of light and therefore wider spacings between Poles and less Poles overall.
Site Lighting may include Carparks, Roads, Service Yards, etc for a variety of Projects
Pole Height
The Pole height may be subject to various influences or restrictions. For example:
Planning Permission may restrict Pole height.
For aesthetic reasons, usually in visually sensitive areas, the Poles may be need to be lower than adjoining Buildings.
The Ground conditions may not be suitable for Poles, requiring Poles to be higher.
To prevent obstruction of traffic in the area, the Pole locations may be restricted, example: In a Carpark, the Poles need to be kept clear of the Access Lanes. External Area lighting generally requires to be in a straight line and not in a haphazard manner for good visuals by both day and night.
Area Light
An Area Light fitting from VeeLite will typically illuminate an area of 50m x 50m. Accourdingly, 4 Luminaires would light an area of 100m x 100m. Mounting heights are typically 8m to 10m depending on the version chosen, the size of the wattage, light levels needed, etc. Our Area Lights are offered in both round or square shape or with a Tripod for decorative effect and Service Life exceeds 100,000 hours.
The wide spacings achieved between lighting columns saves on initial costs such as Luminaires, Poles, groundworks and concrete bases, underground wiring/trenching etc, and also ongoing costs such as electricity and maintenance.
Another benefit is the extra space provided by minimising Poles and the general improved appearance from reduction in column clutter. Ongoing benefits mean less maintenance, energy running costs, etc.
In some cases, higher Poles are needed and in this case, High Mast Lighting (usually Floodlighting) is offered. This is typically more expensive and more obtrusive on the environment so there is usually specific reasons for using High Masts. For example, the area to be illuminated may be large and require to be kept clear of all obstructions including Light poles (eg. Football Pitch).
