It is often not economic to replace expensive Heritage Streetlights, operating with traditional technology (HPS/Son or Metal Halide Lamps) with its new LED equivalent.  This older Lighting may be in good working order and expected to operate for years to come.  The practical solution in these cases is to convert the old heritage Lights to LED.

Changing to LED technology would mean a significant drop in electricity costs – typically a saving in excess of 50%.  For example, changing an existing 70w Lamp (Bulb) to a new (say) 30w LED module will probably only save (say) €25 per year in electricity.  At the same time, buying a new Heritage Light may cost (say) €700, so the payback is poor – 28 Years in this case.

However, replacing the Electrical components only, with LED might cost (say) €150 for example, which would provide a 6 year payback.  VeeLite offers the options of:

1. converting old Luminaires in our Factory –  This option also means we can advise the customer of any other obvious problems we may notice (worn gaskets, corrosion, etc) and which may be easy to repair.  Ideally, the Customer should send us 1 Luminaire to check and ensure the solution will work before returning all Lights.
2. provide a refit kit for a Contractor to test and fit on-site – This option means the Contractor need only visit the site once to modify the existing Light.

In both cases above, the installation/labour cost is ignored, which will effect payback.  Also, in both cases, we offer a choice of both IP22 LED Modules (for well sealed Luminaires) or IP66 Modules (for Luminaires which show signs of future leakage).  Assuming the Luminaires are in good order, the Luminaires may last another 10 or 20 years with minimal maintenance.

Heritage Lighting is by its nature expensive and is therefore economic to convert or repair.  VeeLite offers the same service for all Lighting Products but it generally only makes sense for Specialised or Expensive Lights that cannot easily be replaced.
